Who are we?

LOVE A TREE FOUNDATION is a registered non-profit organization in Sri Lanka that is dedicated to empowering and inspiring children living in the cities to become changemakers who will create a positive impact.  We believe a stronger feeling of connection with our environment is the most essential step taken towards protecting and conserving it.

At Love a Tree Foundation, we create beautiful experiences built around urban wetlands of Colombo for children of 5 – 17 years to form a deeper connection with nature.

Based in Colombo, Sri Lanka our initiatives are mainly built around our urban wetlands which includes wetland trails, outdoor programs, conservation projects, wetland camps, star gazing camps, advocating for sustainability, nature blogs, and art and craft activities to inspire children to find their innate connection to nature.

Vision

A community of nature-connected children for a happier planet

Our Way

We inspire and empower children to enjoy, explore and connect with nature through urban wetland-based learning experiences.

LOVE A TREE FOUNDATION-WETLAND EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN IN COLOMBO

AWAY FROM TRADITIONAL CLASSROOMS

Our programs enable children to go out from the traditional classrooms and look for opportunities for them to interact more with natural urban ecosystems through activities and hands-on experiences.

From wetlands trails, pond dipping, star gazing, nature journaling, nature viewing soil scavenger hunts to virtual initiatives such as nature blogging and citizen science activities, all our initiatives are made with the intention of creating an emotional bond within children towards the natural environment of their cities which they directly or indirectly interact with.

Most of our initiatives are built around urban wetlands and they will be the main learning environment for children to learn with nature. Urban wetlands will help in facilitating a natural learning environment filled with excitement and wonder for the children. We will select wetland parks within close proximity to each group to allow the children freedom to explore, connect and learn.
